Solving problems as a team

Wrightwood's toughest challenges won't be solved by any one person. Russ's priorities start with getting the CSD, residents and business owners working together.

Priority 01 · Board training

Training for the CSD board and staff

We are going to begin training for staff and board.

The lack of training for staff and board members has cost the CSD community confidence and organizational efficiency, and has led to problems that continue year after year.

  • Customer service training, so every resident is treated with respect.
  • Teamwork and collaboration, so the board can bring the community together around solutions.
  • Sound HR practices to help the CSD keep good managers and staff.
  • Solving problems early and together, so less of the public's money goes to legal counsel.

Priority 02 · Sewers & the business district

Sewer solutions so local businesses can grow

A CSD standing committee to find solutions to sewer and waste problems.

Wrightwood's business district lacks a sewer system that can support growth and meet the community's needs, and many of our septic systems are outdated. That holds back the shops and restaurants we all depend on, and it affects property values across town.

Russ will push for a standing committee where the CSD, residents and business leaders work together on a practical path forward, because this is a problem we have to solve for businesses and the community alike.

Priority 03 · Disaster preparedness

Ready for the next fire, flood or storm

Flooding closes roads in and out of town.

Our community faces flooding, drought, fire, heavy snow and earthquakes, and we are isolated from normal disaster responders. Wrightwood lived through the mud flow of 2025, and storms have damaged the roads we rely on to get in and out.

Russ wants a serious look at our disaster plans to make sure we have the planning and resources for the major disasters that will continue to come. He'll push for a standing committee that works with our agencies and responders so Wrightwood is as prepared as it can be, whether the threat comes from Mother Nature or from mining interests.

Priority 04 · Waste management

Keeping Wrightwood clean

Building on what volunteers have already started.

Waste management is one of the biggest issues facing the CSD, and new regulations for solid waste and organic waste are on the way. Through the WPOA, Russ helped volunteer for Wrightwood Cleanup Day with Caltrans to remove illegally dumped tires and debris. He wants the CSD to be a real partner in that work, with lasting solutions instead of one-day fixes.

Russ's measure of success

By the end of his term: a board and a town working together as a team to solve problems.
