Meet Russ

A serial volunteer for Wrightwood

Forty-six years in our mountain town. Forty-four years of giving back to it.

Wrightwood is home

For 46 years, Russ Drew has called Wrightwood home. It is where he and his wife, Linda, raised their family, including two daughters who attended local schools, followed by their five grandchildren. Over that time he has watched our community weather fires, floods, heavy snow and changing times. Through all of it, he has shown up to help.

Russ has been volunteering in Wrightwood for 44 years. Today he serves as President of the Wrightwood Property Owners Association, where he works with neighbors, local businesses and agencies like Caltrans on everything from community cleanups to educational events.

Experience

A career building teams that work

Before retiring, Russ spent his career in management as a Production HR Manager, Plant Manager, Department Manager and Warehouse Manager. He handled budgeting and accounting, and his day-to-day work was helping people work together, resolve conflicts and get results.

He also served on the boards of the Personnel and Industrial Relations Association and the Employee Services and Recreation Association, professional organizations focused on good workplace practices.

That background is exactly what Russ believes the CSD needs right now: training, teamwork, sound HR practices and careful stewardship of the public's money.

Why Russ is running

A letter from Russ

Dear Wrightwood Residents and Business Owners,

My family and I moved to Wrightwood in 1981. I am asking for your support and your vote to elect me to the CSD Board.

Over the years I have volunteered with the Girl Scouts, Wrightwood Elementary, Piñon Mesa and Baldy Mesa schools, the Lions Club, AYSO, the Village Trail Keepers and the Wrightwood Property Owners Association, and at community traditions like Nights of Lights, the Easter Egg Hunt and the Spring Garden Festival. I am no stranger to being involved in our community.

I believe our CSD should be more than a place for a vocal minority to go and complain. It should become the heart of the community and the central voice of Wrightwood as we deal with the agencies and governments that are at the center of our problems and their solutions. The CSD has the means and the duty to set up committees of residents, experts and board members to tackle our challenges together.

Those challenges are real. Our septic systems are outdated. New regulations are coming for our solid waste and organic waste. Our business district needs a community approach. We have faced disasters from Mother Nature, and now from mining interests as well. The CSD should be at the forefront of planning how we prepare for and respond to these events.

I believe that when we work as a team, we can solve any problem. By bringing together people with different points of view, experiences and expertise, we can find common sense, practical solutions. Since its start in 2017, I feel the CSD has not taken the lead in being what Wrightwood needs.

If you believe, as I do, that we need to look at the CSD differently, please vote for Russ Drew and Jason Agraz for the CSD Board. We will work for Wrightwood.

Whether or not I am elected, please contact me any time with questions or concerns that the CSD or the Wrightwood Property Owners Association should address.

Thank you for your service to Wrightwood. I hope we can all prosper and grow better together.

Russ Drew
